Automobile Comfort and Safety:

These days, most of us have at least one vehicle and many have two or more.  We spend a lot of time behind the wheel commuting, taking kids to school, going to work, shopping, running errands, traveling on vacations and any number of other reasons for us to have to get from one place to another.  Fortunately for us our cars are much more dependable than they were 20 or more years ago.  Still, every day as we travel we see someone stranded dangerously on the roadside by a flat tire, mechanical trouble, or just plain running out of fuel.  Let’s face it, we run pretty much the same risk, as anyone else of being in a similar situation and it always seems to happen at the worst time possible.

We can minimize the seriousness and danger of an incident however by proactively preparing ahead of time to take care of the more common reasons for being forced to stop on our way somewhere important to us.  Take a few minutes to think about all of the things that could happen to you in your routine daily travels.

How would you be affected by having a flat tire, either unexpectedly in your own garage as you were late leaving for work or perhaps in the parking lot at the grocery store when you have just finished shopping?  Before something like this actually happens, (like right now) you have the choice of analyzing the situation and preparing for the worst.  Flat tires, while inconvenient, can frequently be temporarily dealt with by having a can of Fix-A-Flat in your trunk that can usually get you going at least far enough to get the tire permanently fixed at a garage near your location.

Another potential showstopper might be a dead battery that prevents you from even starting your car to get somewhere to have it serviced or replaced.  A portable jump starter in your trunk could save the day here and once again get you going to take care of your business and then on to a place to take care of the problem on a permanent basis.

We all have seen cars stopped on the side of a busy freeway or highway with vehicles zooming by dangerously close and fast because they didn’t see the stalled vehicle in time.  A set of emergency cones or reflective emergency triangles placed a distance down the road will not only warn cars to slow down but will usually give a Good Samaritan driver passing by a chance to slow down and stop to offer assistance to the stalled driver.
Another thing to always be prepared for is the outside chance of driving through some remote out of the way area and having your car break down, stranding you and your family with no outside help for who knows how long.  Every year I read instances of this happening.  Sometimes it’s a lone traveler and other times a couple or even a whole family.  Sometimes it’s a happy ending and sometimes not.  You can minimize the dangers of not surviving an incident like this by planning ahead and simply keeping an emergency kit containing simple tools, some food and extra clothing to keep you warm and dry in each of your vehicles.  Once you get it, you don’t have to think about it each time you get into the car to go somewhere, it’s just always there ready to be used if you become stranded.

Any way you look at it, you can save hours of time and frustration in the future by spending a few minutes right now to analyze what could happen and prepare for it while you are calm and thinking clearly.  Take a look at our Automobile Kits & Supplies to see the many kits and other aids we have available that will be of immense help to you when that inevitable misfortune happens to you at the worst time it could on your trip across town or across the country.
