Community Emergency Response Team or: C.E.R.T.
C.E.R.T. is an organization that has spread nationwide. Most people live within a short distance of a city that has a Community Emergency Response Team and provides training for those interested. If your city doesn’t have one, check with one close by. I’m sure you can find one near you if you look.
C.E.R.T. organizations are a great way to train large groups of people in a short amount of time. Training includes Disaster Preparedness for floods & blizzards, Hazardous Materials accidents, Impact on the Community Infrastructure, Structural and Nonstructural Hazards, Disaster Hazard Mitigation, Creating a Family Disaster Plan, Protection for Disaster Workers, Disaster Fire Suppression, Reducing Hazards in the Home and Office, Disaster Medical Operations, Light Search & Rescue Operations and Disaster Psychology and Team Organization. In short, they are a great, inexpensive resource to train people interested in helping out in emergency situations.
C.E.R.T. teams normally provide training sessions several times each year for individuals in the community interested in receiving it. The activity doesn’t stop once you’re trained either. Periodic Mock Disaster exercises are a great way to refresh the group’s knowledge level and give them a glimpse of what it might be like when a real emergency happens and they are called out to help. Members of the team are also called on to teach new members the skills they ave learned since joining.
At ReddyOrNot we recognize the value of these organizations to the communities they serve in and so have available several products including entire kits for members of C.E.R.T. organizations. We can offer “Group Buys” that will give quantity discounts for multiple orders of products for members of a local organization. This is a great way for the organization to equip their members better so they can be more effective when they are called out to help with an incident in the community.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Even if you don’t want to be an active C.E.R.T. member, you can still take the training course and use your new found training and knowledge for your own family’s safety.
