Home Safety / Emergency Evacuation and Fire
Is your home safe?
No, really, have you seriously looked lately to see if your home is as friendly and safe from dangers as it could and should be? First, look at the demographics of who lives in your home. Are you single and living alone? Are you married and have kids? What are their ages? Your home should be tailored to be friendly and safe to the inhabitants. Some safety issues are the same for all homes. Fire and smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, fire extinguishers strategically placed, handrails up to code, emergency escape ladders in upper rooms, these and other safety aids are important and should be installed accordingly to the residence normally living there.
At ReddyOrNot.com we are serious about carrying high quality, tried and proven products that you can trust to protect your family in the event of a life-threatening emergency.
In a recent newspaper article we read of a local woman who died in an apartment fire because there was no escape ladder from the second story apartment she was renting. This is a tragic situation that should have never happened especially in a rental unit. Yet, how many 2nd or 3rd story bedrooms in residences are lacking this same simple piece of equipment that is quite affordable especially considering the lives that it can save?
Yet another important consideration: what if you do have all of the safety equipment and devices to help you remove yourself and your family from danger in an emergency? Have you taken the time to have regular fire and escape drills to teach everyone in the family what to do in the event of a fire that would require escape from an upper story of your home? Are you comfortable that all members are qualified and practiced enough to successfully escape without harming themselves in an emergency?
In emergencies, especially fires and carbon monoxide poisoning we probably have only one chance to quickly identify the problem and use the best method available to get out alive. Regular family drills not only teach all members how to use the equipment but also help them overcome possible fears they may have of doing so.
Please look over our emergency equipment and make sure you have installed all of the safety devices necessary to keep your family members safe and alive. Most of all, on a regularly repeated schedule be sure each person is fully trained and qualified to escape any danger by properly using the equipment you have so wisely provided.
